The new features in detail
With the new firmware, Live View mode is now possible with all lenses (including screw-mounted lenses attached with an adapter). Another new feature is the availability of the spirit level function in Live View mode. A new menu item has also been added: ‘Exposure simulation’. When set to ‘Exposure simulation – permanent’, Live View displays the image brightness for the shutter speed and aperture combination in manual exposure mode (as long as the shutter speed is faster than 1/30 s). Another option is the setting ‘Exposure simulation – release half depressed’. With this option, the image brightness in Live View is matched for the best vision under the shooting conditions – independent of the actual exposure parameters in use. Now, frame format marks for the aspect ratios 3:4, 6:7, 1:1 and 16:9 can also be displayed in Live View. The new firmware also eliminates the sporadic errors in Live View encountered at high temperatures and in exposure metering.
A new feature in the video function menu is the ‘Video off’ setting. From now on, 1/25 s is used for video recording instead of 1/24 s. This reduces the flicker effect that appeared when using 50 Hz mains power.
Further improvements in the firmware update concern the auto ISO options. Pressing the ISO button now displays all auto ISO options. Extra settings for ‘Slowest shutter speed’ – 1×, 2× or 4× focal length – can now be selected to avoid camera shake. ‘Auto ISO in M mode’ is another new option offered. The settings for exposure bracketing increments have been modified and are now stored after turning off the camera. The new ‘Direct EV correction’ option allows direct modification of the exposure compensation value. This means that the compensation value can be changed by turning the thumb wheel without the need to press any other buttons. Also new is the ‘Classic/LV deactivated’ mode, which deactivates Live View to enable only classical exposure metering. The visibility of the focus peaking contours can now be improved by a choice between the colours red, green and blue. The display of GPS location data, the description of the lens type in the EXIF data and the sensor cleaning function have also been optimised.
