Prior to embarking on each fashion collection, H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana would travel to different destinations in search of novel experiences and inspirations. For the first time in 10 years, H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari decided to document these moments through snapshots. Highlighting her personal fondness for documentary-style aesthetics, the talented Princess had chosen a Leica to capture a beautiful and inspiring series of photographs from her trip in Kenya, Africa.

The voyage may very well be remembered as one of her most adventurous excursions. Back in May of 2018, all throughout five days in the savannahs, she experienced constant rainfalls and heavy humidity. From jeeps to hot air balloons, the Princess took still and motion images, while also illustrating onto a personal sketchbook her quest. At the same time, her camera travelled through similar hardships, be it the trying humidity or dusts. At night, it stayed by her side when she rested in a tent — with no phone signal and merely surrounded by soft grunts from a pod of hippos nearby.

Throughout the trip, H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari gave prominence to the natural beauty surrounding her — from warm sunrays glowing onto the desolate savannahs to fiery yet graceful movements of wild creatures, including mighty tigers and stunning giraffes. Her fascination extends towards the Maasai people, an ethnic group she had the chance to get to know personally.

“I focus on capturing the immediate feeling of the moment, as I want to retain its natural qualities as much as possible.”

Following the Kenya trip, the Leica camera has soon become H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari’s first choice in portraying her perceptions of nature’s beauty. “I spend the majority of my time in the city, so it is no surprise that most of the photos I take are either about fashion or the urban lifestyle. It is not very often that I get the chance to take in such pure, untainted sceneries. For that reason, whenever the opportunity arises, I want to capture all the little details through snapshots as keepsakes.”
