Leica AG announces partnership with Goodwood Revival, 12th-14th September
Over the years, many Leica cameras have become coveted collectors' items due to their design, technological innovation or role in history. Classic cars share the same fate. Based on these common values, Leica Camera is delighted to be partnering with Goodwood Revival, September 12 -14th, to capture images of collectors and enthusiasts of classic vehicles as they celebrate their passion.
Those interested in classic cars and vintage fashion will love The Goodwood Revival. The meeting takes place at the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, UK. The owner and organiser is internationally-acclaimed photographer and Leica fan Lord March. The Motor Circuit was initially operational for competitive racing from 1948 to 1966 and only cars, motor bikes and aeroplanes of this period race and exhibit at The Goodwood Revival. The unique festival atmosphere arises from the apparel of the 1940s to 60s, with each guest and racing driver dressed in period clothing during the three-day event. Motor racing legends like Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart participate on a regular basis.
Dr Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority shareholder at Leica
Camera AG, says, "I highly appreciate the renewed cooperation with Lord March at the Goodwood Revival Festival - especially in the context of the genre photography. Both, automotive classics as well as our Leica cameras, are collector’s items and cult objects, which have a wide range of similarities: precision and quality in processing, a timeless aesthetic and perfection in terms of engineering and craftsmanship."
Leica Camera has been granted special access by Goodwood for two photographers to capture this wonderful festival, and is delighted that internationally renowned photographer Mary McCartney, whose work has been exhibited worldwide, and Ted Dwane, British musician and photographer, best known for being the bassist of the Grammy Award winning British folk rock band Mumford & Sons, will attend Goodwood Revival on behalf of Leica.
Mary and Ted will capture ‘behind the scenes’ images of the Revival, using the Leica M Type 240, M Monochrom and M6. The sell-out Revival truly is a magical step back in time, celebrating the halcyon days of motor racing as it used to be, with all of the accompanying spectacle and glamour of the era. Competitors and spectators alike dress in period fashions, with the finest sights and entertainment of the pre-1966 era for all to enjoy. The resulting images will be shared following the Revival on the Leica Camera Blog, accompanied by Mary and Ted’s impressions of the event, allowing the Leica community and beyond to discover this historic festival from a new perspective.
