Leica Camera AG, Solms, presents a new wall calendar for 2014 featuring 12 black-and-white images by Leica photographer René Burri. The pictures shown are from various decades and projects for which the Swiss photographer travelled the world – from West Berlin and Brazil, to Japan, the USA and Pakistan. The multiple-award-winning photographer selected the images for publication in the calendar himself.

The new Leica wall calendar also marks the beginning of the future orientation of the yearly Leica calendar. The 2014 calendar is dedicated to the work of René Burri, the winner of the 2013 Leica Hall of Fame Award; in the future, all Leica Hall of Fame award winners will be honoured by a Leica calendar.

René Burri, born in 1933, is one of the most renowned photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His portfolios of images captured in the political hotspots of the world – for instance, the divided and reunited city of Berlin and evocative portraits like those of the Cuban revolutionary leader Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara smoking a cigar and the sculptor and painter Pablo Picasso – made him famous. Today, some of his images stand as valuable documents of contemporary history. René Burri, a full member of Magnum Photos since 1959, has shaped the history of photography in the 20th century like hardly any other photographer before. He is never satisfied with simple documentary proof in pictures, and always seeks his own particular perspective with an aesthetically sophisticated solution. His oeuvre therefore consists of multifaceted images that demonstrate his instinctively precise sense of composition. René Burri was honoured for his life’s work with this year’s Leica Hall of Fame Award.

The 2014 Leica wall calendar, published by teNeues in DIN A3 format (420 × 297 mm), is available in all Leica Stores and from the LFI online shop at www.lfi-online.de.
