Support for young bird enthusiasts

Young bird enthusiasts often find it difficult to make contact with other young people who share the same interest. What is the best way to encourage school children to develop an interest in ornithology and seek contact with like-minded people of the same age? To make this easier, the American Birding Association (ABA) has organized a competition for young people under the name of ABA/Leica Young Birder of the Year (YBY). Leica has been the main sponsor of the ABA program "Young Birder of the Year" going back to 1997. Leica also supports the Young Birder's Conventions and the Youth Birding Camps organized by the American Birding Association by providing high-quality optical equipment, scholarships and financial aid. This support has enabled even more talented young nature observers to take part in the programs and to profit from the expertise of professional mentors, who can give them useful hints on their choice of career.
