Focus on the Future
Magnum Photos International, Inc. and Leica Camera AG have begun a technological and photographic collaboration that will build upon almost a century's worth of shared history between these two world-renowned photographic institutions.
Building on their shared history Magnum and Leica agreed to collaborate on a series of projects that continue their longstanding dedication to independent documentary photography. Beginning in the spring of 2011, Leica will sponsor the creation of a series of independently produced multimedia essays that will highlight the personal journeys and insatiable curiosity of Magnum photographers. The stories will be published at the homepages of Magnum Photos, the LFI Magazine, and also at this homepage.
In addition to supporting individual projects, Leica and Magnum will use the production of the new essays as an opportunity to learn from Magnum photographers' experiences in the field with the latest Leica equipment and thus develop the Leica portfolio according to the needs of photographers world-wide.
Leica & Magnum - Portrait of Alex Majoli
"I think my interest gets sparked when I recognize a memory. That is when I take a picture." -Alex Majoli

Leica & Magnum: Awakening by Dominic Nahr
Leica Camera follows Dominic Nahr into the 20km zone surrounding the nuclear power plant at Fukushima, Japan. Nahr documents the damage that resulted from the plant's breakdown. He already won the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award in 2009. It came as no surprise that he joined Magnum Photos as a nominee in July 2010.
Leica & Magnum: New York, Ten Years Later by Christopher Anderson
In collaboration with Magnum Photos and The New Yorker, Leica Camera presents "Leica & Magnum: New York, Ten Years Later by Christopher Anderson" a look at New York City ten years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The photos featured in this video were taken by Magnum Photographer Christopher Anderson. Christopher shares his thoughts on the project:
"When The New Yorker magazine commissioned me to create a portfolio of images that could speak to how New York has changed in these ten years, I kept returning to the idea of windows. Windows represent the future. They represent passage and change. They shed light. Through windows we see opportunity and possibility. They sometimes reflect our own selves, and they sometimes act as barriers. In a more concrete way, they are how we New Yorkers physically experience our city. And of course, the idea of windows is directly linked to the two buildings that came down on September 11, 2001. These pictures are connected by the idea of windows. They are my attempt to pay tribute to the resilience of this city."
