The Leica Gallery has been run in partnership with Leica Camera since 1994 and is closely linked to the company. The gallery has become a leading location for both traditional and modern photojournalism in the New York gallery scene. The gallery is located in an historic building in Greenwich Village that is listed in the records of the American Institute of Architects. Since its foundation, the gallery has housed more than 90 exhibitions, including pictures by renowned photographers such as Alfred Eisenstaedt, Ralph Gibson, Leonard Freed, Alex Webb, Erich Hartmann, and Karl Lagerfeld.

Current exhibition: " The Similarity of Matter" - John Flattau

John Flattau's second solo exhibition at Leica Gallery celebrates his seventh book, The Similarity of Matter. The statement by Giorgio Morandi, the Italian still-life painter, speaks for the theme of Flattau's newest published collection: "I believe that nothing can be more abstract, more unreal than what we actually see. We know that all we can see of the objective world, as human beings, never really exists as we see and understand it. Matter exists, of course, but it has no intrinsic meaning of its own, such as the meanings we attach to it." Signed copies of The Similarity of Matter and its publication twin, When All Else Fails, as well as a select group of his out-of-print books will be available throughout the exhibition.
