Binoculars icon with modern technology

Leica Sport Optics presents the new Leica Trinovid

With the Leica Trinovid Leica Sport Optics presents binoculars with modern as well as classic and timeless design. The new Leica Trinovid is available in three colour designs, armorings and magnifications – and it continues the story of the legendary Leitz Trinovid binoculars icon.

The Leitz Trinovid binoculars of 1958 are a milestone in the development of binoculars. Almost 60 years later, Leica presents a successor of the original Trinovid with the new Leica Trinovid, whose design and elegance even surpasses the world-famous binoculars icon.

The product name Trinovid refers to the three (“tri”) innovations (“nov”, novelty) that made the original Trinovid binoculars a state-of-the-art product at that time. Slim design with comfortable ergonomics, real internal focusing and high image performance were the three innovations that made the Trinovid reach a hitherto unrivalled quality on the binoculars market.

Compared to other binoculars mostly available at that time, the original Trinovid stood out for its perfect combination of interior and exterior values: The Leitz engineers combined slim design and innovative optical performance. With the real inner focusing introduced by the Trinovid, for instance, only the lenses inside the sealed binoculars were moved without affecting any external parts of the objective lens or eyepiece. This prevents a suction of objective lens or eyepiece when focusing, which could cause dirt or humidity to intrude into the binoculars. The extremely slim design could be achieved thanks to the built-in Uppendahl-prism, which is also used in the new Leica Trinovid.

The core features of the binoculars icon have been incorporated in the new Leica Trinovid – and the workmanship of materials and optics has been optimised throughout. Thanks to their slim design and with a weight of only 550 grams the Leica Trinovid 7x35 are the lightest binoculars in their class – making them a versatile and indispensible companion for travelling, events or hiking in nature. Another uncontested feature of the Leica Trinovid is its outstanding field of view of 150 metres (at 1,000 metres).

The Leica Trinovid is available in magnifications of 7x35, 8x40 and 10x40. Customers can choose among a robust anti-slip rubber armoring version or one with robust leather trim. The leather trim version is available with silver or black anodised aluminium parts.

Back in the 1960s the developers of Ernst Leitz GmbH marketed the original Trinovid line with the slogan: “A pair of binoculars as an object for daily use means that you can take it everywhere you go.” The new Leica Trinovid meets this standard uncompromisingly. “Light and slim design, precise and modern optics with state-of-the-art materials, improved transmission, sharpness and contrast make the Leica Trinovid a modern icon”, says Nanette Roland, Leica Sport Optics Product Manager responsible for the development.

The Leica Trinovid is available from September 2017 in the following versions in Leica stores and at authorised Leica dealers.
