Compact, powerful and exceptional low-light performance: LEICA GEOVID HD-R

The next generation of binoculars with an integrated rangefinder in the Leica Geovid range

With the Leica Geovid HD-R binoculars, Leica Camera AG, Solms presents a further developed, new generation of binoculars in the Geovid HD range. The new models combine an innovative ballistics function with the proven reliability and outstanding properties established over many years and offer valuable additional benefits, particularly for angle shots and when shooting in difficult terrain.

As in the previous model, the Leica Geovid HD-R displays linear distances up to a maximum measuring distance of about 1300 metres (1340 m/1400 yds). A new addition is the EHR ballistics function that allows the user to display the equivalent horizontal range for angle shots for distances from 10 metres/yards to 550 metres/600 yards. The algorithm developed by Leica takes not only the linear distance and the angle into account, but now also includes a realistic ballistic curve, and is therefore, for example, more accurate than the Rifleman’s Rule (cosine-function). Users enjoy the benefits of precise measuring results and significantly greater certainty of an ethically placed shot. No previous knowledge of ballistics is required when using the EHR function. The display appears at the single press of a button. Pre-setting or pre-programming is not required.

From April 2014, the Leica Geovid HD-R 42 binoculars will be available with 8× and 10× magnification and the Leica Geovid HD-R 56 binoculars with 8× and 15× magnification.

The Geovid HD-R 42 binoculars offer comfortable viewing characteristics for prolonged observation, classical, ergonomic design for perfect handling and uncompromising quality in construction and finish. Both models feature a wide field of view and are ideal for scanning broad terrain. The Leica Geovid HD-R 56 binoculars are a dependable companion in the unfavourable light and low contrast at dawn and dusk. They impress with their maximised light-gathering performance, exceptional resolving power that ensures a clear and richly detailed view and a large exit pupil.

All Leica Geovid HD-R binoculars stand for outstanding optical performance in all viewing situations. Their high contrast and edge-to-edge image sharpness ensure identification of even the smallest details. The use of innovative concepts like High Definition (HD) optics – the use of fluoride glasses – guarantees a viewing image free from colour fringing and edge-to-edge brilliance and sharpness, even when visibility is poor. The brightness of the LED display adjusts automatically to ambient lighting conditions and shows the determined values with optimum brightness and clarity under any conditions.

The Leica AquaDura® coating on the exposed glass surfaces means dirt and water on the lenses just roll away and improves viewing performance, particularly in rainy weather. The binoculars thus always provide optimum performance, even in adverse weather conditions and extremely humid environments. A further advantage of this special coating is that the lenses can now be cleaned even more quickly and easily.

The design and the controls of the Leica Geovid HD-R range are designed to meet the needs of users and frequent use under even the toughest viewing conditions. The die-cast aluminium chassis and the eyepieces are enclosed in impact-absorbing armouring to protect the binoculars against damage. In conjunction with the ergonomic form of the binoculars, this armouring provides outstanding grip and ensures safe and steady holding. Thanks to the balanced distribution of weight, the binoculars can be comfortably used for long periods of time without tiring the user.
