In addition to the main and newcomer awards at the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award, the centennial year of Leica Camera AG, 2014, will also see the presentation of the first public award. The winner will be selected from amongst the around 50 best entries in the main category and from amongst about 20 entries for the newcomer award by free online voting on www.i-shot-it.com, the world’s leading website for photographic competitions. The voting process will run from 1 April to 30 April 2014. In addition to the extraordinary publicity that this generates, the winner in this category also wins a cash prize of 2,500 euros. In addition, a prize draw for non-cash prizes of Leica compact cameras will also be held for all who participated in the vote.

With high-quality equipment and doubled cash prizes this year, Leica Camera AG has made the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2014 more attractive than ever before. This year, the company is celebrating ‘100 years of Leica photography’, honouring Oskar Barnack, the pioneer of photography who invented and constructed the Ur-Leica, the first successful Leica camera, in 1914. In this centennial year the winner of the main category of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award will, for the first time, receive a cash prize of 10,000 euros and Leica M-System equipment to the value of a further 10,000 euros. The winner in the newcomer category, who is no older than 25, will now be awarded a cash prize of 5,000 euros, as well as a Leica rangefinder camera and lens.

The closing date for submissions to the competition was 31 January 2014. From the more than 2,500 entries, the members of the international jury selected a shortlist that can now be viewed on https://www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com. The awards will be presented in the course of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie photographic festival held in Arles, in the south of France, from 7 to 13 July 2014. A special issue of LFI magazine in July 2014 will present the winners and finalists and numerous illustrations of their works.
